Being a working mom can be a challenge, but Realtor moms will discover that they can use their skills as mothers to enhance their real estate business.
Delegation is a skill that most moms already possess. How many times have you found yourself saying, “you fold the towels while I start dinner?” It may seem like everyday parenting, but what you’re actually doing is delegating. You’re assessing which tasks require your personal attention and which can be done by someone else.
Finding help for your real estate tasks isn’t hard. Your children might even be able to help! Start delegating, and you’ll see a big increase in your productivity.
What Can Someone Else Do For Me?
Making copies, scheduling appointments, addressing mailings, and preparing forms could all be done by an administrative assistant. What about at home? Does your housecleaning, carpooling, and meal preparation really need your touch?
Sit down and look at your earnings goal. How many hours per week do you need to work in order to meet that goal? What does that break down to in terms of an hourly wage? If you think that you could earn $50 an hour if you could keep your schedule, it would be worth it to pay another parent $10 a day to drive your children to school.
Finding Hidden Help Sources
Look for every possible opportunity to delegate. Your child might find it great fun to stick pre-printed address labels on post cards, or to lick stamps and apply them to envelopes. Older kids can stuff envelopes or make copies for a small fee. Would your baby-sitter be willing to do your laundry for an extra $20 a week? Can you pay a neighborhood high-schooler $25 to mow your lawn? Can you hire a local college student to work for minimum wage one day a week designing mailings and updating your website?
If you think outside the box, you can have ample time to create a fabulous career and a fulfilling home life as well.
