Lessons from a Picnic

Business is like a picnic, well, sort of.
Picnics are a great way to celebrate and enjoy summer, in three easy steps.
Business is like planning a picnic!

Plan Ahead.

When planning a picnic, mapping out the details, like where the picnic will be, what food you will be serving and things to bring to make it a success are important.

Planning ahead is also very important for your business. Did you create a Business Plan at the beginning of the year? It is important to review this at least Quarterly to make sure you are on track.

If you need help creating your plan, check out my Small Business Planning Guide.

Have a Plan B.

You can plan the perfect picnic but you can’t predict the weather. A picnic is just a state of mind and can be done anywhere. An indoor picnic would be a nice option if the weather is terrible. You can still enjoy the company of everyone with games of charades or board games while munching on healthy foods you prepared.

Business has its own version of “bad weather” at times. Unpredictable situations can come up with a client leaving, a team member going on vacation, or an unexpected bill arriving in the mail.
Business is also a state of mind and it is important to make the best out of the obstacles that may be thrown in your path and create a Plan B when necessary. It may be finding new clients, focusing on marketing efforts, or adjusting the budget.

Enjoy your efforts.

After all the preparation, enjoy what you have created! Capture photos of this special moment and make it memorable. Enjoy each other’s company with good conversation and most importantly have fun!

Business should also be enjoyed. You have your own business for a reason, don’t lose sight of that when everything is not going as planned. Enjoy the fruits of your labor and of the freedom you have created for yourself.

Don’t have time for picnics?

You may be overworked and underpaid at the same time.
