When Mom is Sick

We’ve all been there. You wake up with a toddler jumping on your bed at six in the morning, and instead of popping out of bed, you slowly drag your achy and sore body out from under the covers. Your head is stuffed up, your throat is raw and you feel like you have been hit with a truck. You’re sick. But the world cannot stop when mom is sick; life must go on, and that means that you need to get up and take care of business.
When mom is sick, everything becomes a little bit harder to handle and sometimes you just really need a break. If it’s possible for your spouse to stay home and let you get some rest, take advantage of the opportunity to rest your body and get better. However, this isn’t always possible. Hiring a babysitter to come to your house while you sleep is another alternative to getting that much-needed recovery rest.
If you are not able to rest as much as you need to, you will need to take a look at your to-do list, and maybe drop some things or delegate what you can. Perhaps you could call upon a neighbor or classmate to drive your daughter to dance lessons? Maybe you could trade with another parent for snack day at preschool? Or instead of baking three dozen homemade cupcakes, pick some up at the local bakery.
When it comes to your business, if it is possible, try to take a few days off to recover. You will not be any good to anyone if you don’t get better. Often it is much easier to simply take a few days off to focus on recovering than trying to work through your illness. You will be able to feel better faster and get back into the swing of things much quicker than if you ignore your body and don’t get the rest you need.

This is the hilarious and inspirational story of one harassed woman’s one-day escape from momhood, and her surprising discoveries about the place where Glory dwells: her very own home. You know the feeling. One day you’re patting your bulging tummy, dreaming up names for your little future President … and the next thing you know, you find yourself rooting for Ernie from Sesame Street to win the People’s Choice Award for Best Actor or hearing “innocent” questions like: “Uh, Mom, how do you put out a fire?” You love them, but some days you dream of escaping — to the moon.
