Meal Planning for the Real Estate Mom

by | Jul 31, 2014 | Real Estate Moms

Being a Realtor and a mom can be a lot of fun, but it also creates some serious meal planning challenges. Real estate is a job that resists being a nine-to-five no matter how hard you try. However, whether you get home at three or at seven, dinner is a chore that’s always waiting. It can be so stressful to deal with that you find yourself hitting the drive-through on your way home, only to stress even more over the lack of nutritional value and the high cost of fast food. There has to be a better way!

A Little Organization Goes a Long Way

Take an hour for yourself on Sunday and plan the week’s meals. It might be hard to stick to at first, but you’ll be glad that you did it. First, look at your calendar and see which nights you have to work late, or when soccer practices and dance recitals will be held; you may have to plan to grab fast food. Look for coupons, two-for-one deals, or nightly specials that will help cut the cost. Begin planning meals for each night that you’ll be home by checking your freezer and pantry for the items that you already have on hand. Make a shopping list detailing what else you’ll need to buy.

Group Meals Can Be Easy and Fun

If you still find it hard to stay on track, try one of the new solutions geared towards working moms. Check your local listings for companies that do group cooking. You simply go to a central location and a bunch of working moms get together and cook large meals. Also, check into hiring a local friend or even a professional to make meals ahead of time that you can freeze and thaw as you need them – this can be less expensive than you might think. Or, try a meal swap with friends or fellow real estate moms. If you have four participants, you make four batches of the same meal and each mom goes home with four complete meals. No matter what route you choose, planning is the key!
